Art Exhibition – Open Aviary – at Rose Street Cottage of Curiosities starts 11am until 3pm – DONATIONS

Island Projects is working in partnership with Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust and the Promenade Festival 2016 to create a platform for contemporary art on the Isle of Sheppey. The mobile art space ‘Room’ has been installed next to the Sheerness Dockyard Church. ‘Open Aviary’ is the first of such exhibitions, and will bring together a selection of high quality artworks which respond to the theme of Flight.

This exhibition reveals the outstanding achievements of one of Britain’s greatest aviation engineers, who few realise was born on Sheppey. It features the life and work of Sir Stanley Hooker, who made an incredibly significant contribution in developing the engines of our most iconic aircraft, from the Spitfire, through to the Vulcan and ultimately Concorde.

This exhibition will feature places visited by members of the Aspirations group over the years; like the Aviation Museum at Eastchurch, Muswell Manor (home of the first aircraft factory in Britain), the Eco Centre at Brambledown , Elmley Reserve, Barton’s Point, Halfway Cemetery and Queenborough. This is a quirky look at some of the best bits about Sheppey
